The world of water sports is a very intense and often unforgiving place. Training in these sports, for example swimming, can be some of the most strenuous and tough programs in the entire sports landscape. Fina is the governing body of these water sports and organises official international competition in water sports. The abbreviation Fina stands for “Fédération Internationale de Natation”, translating to International Swimming Federation.
This goes without saying: The NBA is the most popular and the most watched basketball league in the world. 30 teams from all over America battle it out in an 82 game regular season to qualify for the play-offs, for which the finals attracted 7.5m viewers in the USA alone. The logo was designed decades ago, in 1969, with the iconic silhouette being an outline of then NBA player Jerry West of the Los Angeles Lakers.
Manchester United is the most decorated club in English football, as well as the most supported football club in the world. It boasts the highest shirt sales of any club with their millions of fans all over the world. Hand in hand with this is its very noticeable and iconic club logo, which features the club’s signature red devil as well as a ship to pay homage to the roots of the city as a shipping port.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games was scheduled to take place in the summer of 2020, but was postponed on the 24th March to the summer of 2021. As the biggest sporting event in the world, the logo accompanying it is sure to come under intense scruntiny, as a symbol of the event that would be plastered everywhere, from TV to soft drink cans. The 2008 Beijing Olympics attracted 3.5 billion viewers who had saw some part of the 16 day event, as a reference.
The Russia 2018 World Cup was arguably the greatest World Cup tournament of all time, capped off with a final that finished 4-2 to the eventual winners France against Croatia, with the game having the most goals in a World Cup final in 50 years. However, it is worth noting that the logo that was released almost 4 years before the tounament seemed to receive a strongly positive reaction from the public, taking major steps up from the logo used for the 2014 competition in Brazil.
The Premier League is the most watched football league in the world, so it’s only natural that their logo plays a big part in the advertising and promotion of the league worldwide. The old logos of this colossal sports league seemed to follow a very similar colour theme, going with base colours of white, blue and red. They all feature a crowned Lion standing on a football, symbolising a sense of pride in being the best and biggest football league in the world. The text used, particularly in the first 2 logos, are fairly simple. They follow a bold typeface and are relatively subtle in comparison to the logo. The size of the font seems to progress as the league took on Barclaycard/Barclays as a sponsor, at which point the sponsor’s name is highlighted and is made to stand out in comparison to the rest of the text.
